OASAS Prevention
OASAS REQUIREMENTS
Who needs to participate in this training?
- 1 staff member from each OASAS prevention program will complete this training.
Once I've completed the training, how many presentations am I required to present?
- Providers are to facilitate no less than one (1), and not to exceed five (5), information awareness presentations within their community per Workplan cycle.
- Additionally, it is the expectation that the trained prevention staff will go back and train other staff in the prevention program so more than 1 staff is capable of providing this training .
- Each provider must provide 1-5 of these presentations during each workplan year.
- If there is a need for more, contact your regional office program manager.
Does our facilitated training to our coworkers count for 1 presentation that we're required to do?
No. Training is separate and the content is more extensive than that of the community presentation. Presentations only count when they are delivered in your community to at least 10 adults.
- The presentation is NOT meant for dissemination to youth, such as students in your local schools.
- This training is designed to be facilitated to community influencers, such as parents, caregivers, coaches, school staff, etc.
- Trained providers can facilitate these presentations in-person or via virtual platforms.
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS
What are providers supposed to be measuring during/after these sessions? Knowledge gained, changes made, etc.?
- You can use a pre and post-test to measure outcomes.
When providers are audited, will OASAS be reviewing their materials/PPT/etc. from these sessions to ensure that they covered the required information?
- Yes, this will be reviewed during site visits.
Do the field supervisors know about the requirements of these presentations?
- If you are referring to the Regional Office Program Managers and employees of the Program Review Unit, yes.
What are the future plans to support OASAS prevention providers who want to present this information to youth?
- The current goal is to inform parents and community leaders on problem and underage gambling.
Is there any conflict or any objections to me attempting to get the training certified through OASAS for clock hours to encourage partners in the field (in my community) to attend the presentation?
- The provider can apply with the Learning and Development Unit to give OASAS approved credentialing hours.
