R.E.S.T. for the Caregiver
Speaker: Shane A. Ash, D.Min.
Description: Providers who care for individuals with gambling disorders often shoulder immense and invisible burdens: repeated relapse, family breakdown and financial devastation, secrecy and shame, and the moral distress of walking alongside clients whose struggles rarely resolve quickly. Over time, these experiences can erode a caregiver’s sense of agency, purpose, and fulfillment in their work. This workshop introduces the R.E.S.T. framework as a practical and restorative guide for providers. Through teaching, reflective exercises, and peer sharing, participants will leave with concrete strategies to ground their presence, strengthen resilience, and sustain their vocational purpose amid the demanding work of gambling treatment.

Cognitive Restructuring in Action: Leveraging the BDAT Simulation in Gambling Treatment

Speaker: Dr. James Broussard

Description: This session will equip clinicians with a powerful experiential tool, the Brief Digital Accelerator Treatment (BDAT ), to enhance cognitive restructuring for clients with gambling disorder. This is an app-based intervention designed for delivery on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Participants will learn how to use the BDAT's hands-on digital simulation to make abstract concepts like long-term odds and the "house advantage" tangible and undeniable. Through a live demonstration, clinicians will see how this data-driven approach directly challenges clients' biased beliefs about winning in a way that verbal discussion alone often cannot. The workshop provides a step-by-step guide for integrating this tool to facilitate concrete conversations about gambling harm and collaboratively set goals for behavior change.
